Try Different Sites When Searching For Records

Extra! Extra!

The information you are looking for may not be lost. You might simply be looking in the wrong place.

Sometimes it can be frustrating when you cannot find the information you need. No one likes to feel stuck at a roadblock. However, don’t give up. Take the time to explore different websites, databases, and resources. You may be surprised by what you discover.

For example, I was researching one of my great-grandparents and could not find his birth date. Without that information, I was unable to continue my research or confirm who his parents were.
Most of the time, I use FamilySearch and Ancestry for my genealogical research. One day, however, I received an alert from MyHeritage. As I reviewed the matches and records available there, I came across an obituary that I had never found before. To my surprise, the obituary included his birth information, providing the missing piece I needed.

Before giving up on your search, make sure you explore the many options available to you. There are excellent websites and organizations that have worked hard to collect and preserve records that can help you continue your family history journey. Sometimes the answer is out there, waiting to be found in a place you have not yet looked.
